Pak
Asep

In all the years
that I have attempted to sell the products woven by my people in
my village, I never learned how to do my costing properly.'
So said Pak Asep after a few workers from our Handykrafts office spent
several hours showing him how to price each item. 'No wonder I so often
came up short at the end of a sale!'
Pak Asep knows that
Handykrafts has his welfare in mind as well as the welfare of his villagers.
Not only do we help him on the business side of his work, but we also try to
find foreign markets for the beautifully woven grass mats, bags and boxes
that his village has been making for generations. Everyone from Pak Asep's
village is a relative and when he gives our staff from Handykrafts a tour,
it's evident that he's proud of their skills and the beautiful
surroundings. Rice paddies, mountains, a volcano, coconut palms and warm breezes greet all
who visit his home.
Those friendly
villagers are guaranteed a fair wage and the profits from products sold go
directly towards helping those in need through projects in health education
and assistance, small business loans, agricultural and appropriate
technology.
